Sei aizome indigo dyed cotton: ‘mukei bunkazai’

Sei aizome mukei bunkazai 2

This is a very beautiful bolt of high quality indigo dyed cotton for making a Japanese yukata (summer kimono).  It is marked ‘mukei bunkazai’ which refers to intangible cultural properties of high historical or artistic value that are recognized by the Japanese Government.   A broad range of disciplines is covered, including drama, music, and craft techniques – in this case, authentic indigo dyed fabric (sei aizome).  A wonderfully textured fabric with a superb color.
